The Fastest Way to Eliminate Grass

There are several methods to eliminate unwanted grass and weeds, and this article will outline some of these techniques:

Chemical Methods

Chemical solutions are available in markets that kill weeds and grass upon application, such as glyphosate, which can be purchased from gardening and nursery stores. It is used by spraying the targeted area and reapplying the spray 14 days after the first application, ensuring the chemical reaches all areas to prevent any remaining roots from regrowing.

It is important to take safety precautions during use, such as wearing protective goggles, rubber boots, and a mask, and keeping pets and children away from the sprayed area for at least four hours.

There are also other types of herbicides in granule form that are applied after removing weeds and grass to prevent regrowth. These granules are spread evenly over the targeted area according to the product instructions. Afterward, the area should be watered thoroughly with about 1.3 cm of water immediately to help the granules penetrate the soil. Without proper watering, these herbicides will not be as effective. This process can be repeated every two to three months.

Natural Methods

There are several natural methods for eliminating grass and weeds, including tilling the soil and covering the targeted areas. Below are the details:

  1. Covering the Area:
    • Use specialized agricultural fabric, burlap, black or transparent plastic sheets, or newspaper. Newspapers decompose over time, providing some nutrients to the soil.
  2. Manual Removal:
    • Pull out the weeds and grass, including their roots, by hand.
  3. Layering with Mulch:
    • Cover the weeds with newspaper and then add a layer of mulch, such as wood chips, leaves, or compost, with a thickness of about 7 cm.
    • Remove any new weeds that grow through the newspapers and repeat this method annually.
